Moving from Lismore to study Journalism at QUT, Sarah was inspired to set up Brisnet, a support network of students from rural and regional areas who help each other settle into life in Brisbane.
Since then she’s been named Queensland Young Volunteer of the Year and was a recipient of the 2008 QUT Student Leadership Excellence Award for her exceptional work in the university and the wider community.
Sarah supports QUT’s Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and Initiate programs, Student Support Networking Group and is an advisor to the Engineers Without Borders Executive Committee.
More recently, Sarah was the only Australian delegate to attend the Global Engagement Summit in the USA - with only 17 international delegates selected worldwide. She also shares her volunteering experience and encourages others through the Business Advantage’s Community Engagement module and the Workshop: Volunteering Gen Y Style which she developed in conjunction with Volunteering Queensland. Sarah is dedicated to her role as a Youth Ambassador of Reach Out – the web-based mental health service for young people.
As an aspiring journalist, Sarah co-hosted the 2007 Federal Election coverage on Switch 1197am and travelled to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games as part of QUT’s journalism contingent.
