Joanne Jacobs

Joanne is a private information and communications technology consultant and a Lecturer in the MBA program at the Brisbane Graduate School of Business at Queensland University of Technology.

Her areas of research expertise are Internet regulation, digital television, social software, electronic publishing, e-marketing and telecommunications policy. In all these areas, her work has focused on participation,diversity and access to the technologies of communication. She has written widely on these areas, and has drawn on her consultancy work to develop practitioner-oriented reviews and guidelines. She has developed policies for both the public and private sector relating to digital delivery and virtual participation, and she has acted in executive roles in a number of organisations in the information and communication industry sector. She is also an advisory member to the National Forum, Inc, publisher of the highly
successful On Line Opinion(http://www.onlineopinion.com.au/), a web-based
journal of social and political debate.

Her academic career has involved teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, in both Business and Arts faculties, and she has headed University Working Parties and Committees related to the use of technologies in learning.

Joanne was the Monash University ambassador and Associate Producer of the acclaimed 'In the Pipeline' radio series which won an Australian Teachers of
Media Award in 2000, and was an advisor to the 'e-Biz' television series, as well as other radio series and ABC internet products.

Joanne frequently provides expert commentary for print and broadcast media and has previously been invited to participate in ongoing reviews for
communications regulation in the digital environment. She is a regular speaker at conferences on communications policy and information management and marketing. Recently Joanne has been invited to present papers at the
Australian and New Zealand Communication Association Conference as well as the Straight Out Of Brisbane Festival and the United Nations International Conference on Engaging Communities.

A pioneer of the Australian blogging environment, Joanne has been conducting research on social software for the past five years, and is presently
preparing a book on 'Uses of Blogs' with colleague, Axel Bruns from QUT.
