The Ideas Festival showcases the breakthrough thinking and cutting-edge work being done in the community; by individuals, government, business, and academia. The festival is like a marketplace of ideas: national and international thought leaders, inspirational risk-takers and creatives share with us and each other their innovative endeavours.

We start with the premise that the best ideas don’t live in people but through them. The festival is the opportunity for you to connect with thinkers, creators, makers and doers in bringing their ideas to life. We bring together thought leaders, entrepreneurs, inventors, artists, academics, designers - to present breakthrough thinking and cutting edge work, towards solutions that matter to our lives. And we ask people to bring their own ideas along and have them tested in the world of ideas that they’ll encounter there.

The kinds of people who will present are those prepared to put their ideas in the public arena, for scrutinising, appraisal, engagement, and dialogue. They are academics, scientists, designers, inventors, business innovators, architects, artists, film makers, writers, and social entrepreneurs: thinkers who’ve brought ideas into action.

The Ideas Festival presents a diverse, accessible program of debates, panels, lectures, exhibitions and demonstrations appealing to the broadest audiences and encouraging the exchange of ideas between thinkers, doers, dreamers, leaders and the quietly curious. In this respect it stands different from every industry conference, trade show, artform festival and sector specific symposium.

The Ideas Festival supports a state culture that is rich in creativity and renewal. It showcases the ideas that prove Queensland as accomplished in its achievements and enterprising in its endeavours. The Ideas Festival’s vision is to create an event that ensures for itself a sustainable future, not only for its quality in program, presentation and production, but for its relevance to its strong connection and value to its stakeholders: business, government agencies, academia and the broader community. It also builds the facility to communicate across these sectors and connect in ways that vitalise and strengthen Queensland’s broader social, economic and cultural enterprise.
